Did anyone see this car?
I am curious to hear the details..Seems a bit odd it went for so much

Jeff Hamlin 01-18-2022 07:07 AM

It was well done, but nothing to warrant that.

Maybe the 370 horse option? Seriously, it's a beautiful car but that price is hard to believe.

Sloan66 01-18-2022 12:25 PM

everything was going for very high prices, I think even the commentators were blown away by prices.

RedDirtRoad 01-18-2022 04:22 PM

time to sell my 67 at Mecum this Spring. lol

ZeGermanHam 01-18-2022 05:05 PM

Holy smokes, that's an insane amount of money to pay. It's an automatic. And it's restored - not an untouched original.

a LOT of happy sellers at Mecum Kissimmee this year .

Dana Mecum is REAL happy too
Record Breaking event at well over 200 million in sales
They get 10% from buyer and I think 5% from seller
That would be over 30 million in fees to Mecum

Over 90% sold ratio too

ZeGermanHam 01-18-2022 09:47 PM

I was very surprised by what people were willing to pay for some cars at Kissimmee this year. I mean, someone paid $1.3m (!!) for a 1936 17-passenger national park tour bus. Imagine what else you could have for that amount of money.

$225K+

They may have gotten more if the park light and emblem were installed correctly.

ZeGermanHam 01-19-2022 10:32 PM

Does anyone here have any insight as to how this car managed to achieve such a high sale price? It just seems completely crazy to me. Sometimes very nice resto-mods can break into this territory, but this is a stock restoration. Very nice, but it was neither an untouched low-mile original, nor a whiz-bang resto-mod, nor owned by anyone famous. What am I not getting here?

Prices are hard to believe these days. Even some project cars are selling for what finished cars were bringing just a few years ago!

I watched the video of this car and can anyone else tell or verify if it has the early, flat faced reproduction gauges?
That's what they look like to me but I can't get a real clear view.
Not trying to knock the car.

I see a lot of 67 lamps that look off to me.

You got that right. Many sellers jumping for joy.
This week, a lot of buyers remorse I'd bet.

Saw that and sighed. Paint dabs. Ink stamps. And then they do something as sloppy
as that? (you probably noticed the "modern" amber bulb in there)

Finger guard *AND* fan shroud? Master cylinder. Really looks like they painted all four
coil springs with... shock absorber gray.

Hard to tell, but it looks like the far LH pod face isn't flat. Without seeing it in
person, I'm going to hazard two guesses: it's either a trick of the lighting OR
whoever refinished the faces didn't use enough blue and/or went nearly zero
gloss? Dunno.:noidea:

I'm wondering if that was maybe a foreign buyer. Europeans and Arabs love these cars and can have lots of money. Not to slam them, but in my experience after working in Saudi Arabia, I've seen them buying classic muscle with seemingly no regard for the price if they want them.

Should there not be a little chrome strip showing, from the perimeter of the dash bezel going up and over where it meets the column? It appears to be covered with the wood veneer. For 225k, that mofo should be beyond perfect.

Inflation is rampant and the US government has increased the money supply like crazy. Nobody in their right mind wants to be holding depreciating federal reserve notes sitting in a sub 1% savings account right now, as it is losing value by the day, so many seem to be parking cash in other assets - often physical. Sports cards and other collectibles have also been skyrocketing in value as well during this time.

Another reason may be people borrowing like mad at still low rates and buying expensive cars, hoping that the value goes while the fixed monthly payment effectively drops over time as the dollar loses value.
