/''79 Norwood build W72 assistance needed please

I am trying to confirm the correct head bolt for the valve covers on a February build from the Norwood plant. I have a picture of a possible LZ or LN that I believe came from a Van Nuys build. Friend on PY is trying to help me with some parts he has, however, it looks like there might have been several bolts used from different suppliers for the cars, possibly different from plant to plant?

Anyone with a correct Norwood W72 build that can help please?

Thanks,
Jim

can anyone with a 78-79 400 t/a or firebird post a pic of original valve cover bolts? they should be the same for all 400's but W72 with the chrome covers would be ideal.

78macho is trying to confirm what the correct bolts are & if they were different for norwood vs van nuys plants or maybe changed over the years due to vendor supply.

All Pontiac v8s were built in the same place...and shipped via rail.....to the various car assembly plants..

also...there were various suppliers for most...if not all bolts/fasteners,etc....so it was pretty normal to find bolts from different manufacturers...on any given assembly..

Seriously 78w72... Pontiac engines were assembled w their valve covers @ plant9 (engine plant) at the massive Pontiac Michigan plant, then shipped by rail to the various Assembly plants. No differenc in VChead markings per which plant an engine like a 79 Pwh was installed.

Where different bolt head markings come into play, be it at different times of the year or at different assembly plants, is in original body assembly; ie, fender attachment bolts, hood latch to core support, etc.

seriously ol pinion head... thats great, thanks for the info. im aware engines were assembled at one plant & sent to the other 2 car assembly plants. what 78macho & i are asking is for a pic of some valve cover bolts to get an idea of what was used at any given time. he wasnt sure if car assembly plants maybe got batches of engines with different supplied bolts. just trying to help him out...

so can anyone show a pic of the v/c bolt heads?

yes he forwarded that pic to me & it was helpful, im trying to locate some for him in my boxes of spare bolts i have but haven't found a full set with those markings yet & i know ive seen some with different markings. so we're just trying to get a couple more pics to see what other types were used.

with all the original cars on here & efforts to find other original parts & hoses with correct markings etc, i thought maybe we could get a couple more pics. or from the members that part these cars out & probably have a few buckets full of bolts like i do... its just that mine are not categorized so its kinda hard to sort through them all to find these specific little bolts.

Here is where the confusion came from. This is a 77 w72 with the NL bolts featuring a raised ridge around the perimeter.

yes, those are what i have some of, a recessed area on the bolt head where the markings are. i have some with the NL & some with other letters like W or E & some with no markings. then i have some with the flat top like the 1st pic but other letters or no markings at all. these style of bolts were used on the oil pan too & i have a bunch of all variations but havent found a full matching set of 8 with the NL yet.

im still checking my other boxes of bolts but that requires a lot of digging, was hoping between what i have & what other members might be able to locate we could make a full set for him. & also to see what the other types pontiac may have used for these cars.

I'm using the oem bolts on my '78 Van Nuys TA with W72 chrome valve covers. I'll check markings if needed?
