63 Lemans Rear Spring Install-Help!
 

I'm in the process of putting all the Suspension/Transaxle back onto my 1963 Lemans body at the shop where the bodywork was done. Transaxle is installed along with swing arms/axles/brakes, but I can't seem to find a way to install the rear coil springs.
I've followed the chassis manual procedure...Used spring compressors...no room.
What am I doing wrong ? Any suggestions would be appreciated. My time on the hoist is limited.

As I remember i undid the shocks,had the wheels and tire off and jacked up the rear end to let the lower A arms fall until I could remove and install the springs.Been a few years since I did one.Tom

My way is a threaded rod and a piece of flat stock and something welded at end so spring won't slip. Or easier find a way to compress spring some. Use some cable and some cable conectors/c;amps Put in place and bolt every thing up. Put weight on suspension and loosen cable clamps.

Guys...I'm talking about the rear swing arms. There's no hole at the top of the crossmember and a rubber bumper in the center of the lower swing arm. The only place for a spring compressor is on the outside. Manual says to disconnect axle shaft, disconnect shock absorber and remove spring. To install, set spring in the upper crossmember and pry into place in lower control arm. NO Mention of a spring compressor. I tried both ways and no joy....not to mention I'm black and blue from trying....any Ideas, suggestions, or past experience is welcome.

I have never needed a compressor the way I explained it.The shocks and weight of the car hold the springs in.Tom

Figured out the problem ! Somewhere along the way I got the wrong springs for the rear suspension. They were about 14+ inches tall...the correct ones are only about 12 +/- tall. Found the correct springs with the help of Little Indians member Robin Triplett...Many thanks Robin !
