66 OHC SPRINT FUEL FILTER AND LINES
 

Hello fellow cammers, I am new to the OHC Sprint. I picked up a 66 Sprint with ac and 3 speed stick. I’m trying to figure out the correct parts and configuration for the fuel system. Can anyone help me with correct fuel filter, lines and routing? My car has the return line. Any help, part numbers and or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

There isn't really much out there to help us with our '66s.
I ended up using some early B&W factory photos to setup/detail my '66 that I found years ago.

'66 was the only year to have rubber hose sections and there was no filter other then in the carb inlet.

I found an inline "AC-Delco" filter used on '67 OHC 6s and added it on my '66 as a "Day 2" type part other then that I am 99% factory layout.

Thanks for the information and pictures. Mine has these brackets on it. I assumed they are for an external filter with return.

You are correct I forgot about AC cars.

The upper bracket is the hose support that mounts onto the carb.
On AC equipped models it also holds the Idle Speed Up Switch.

The bottom bracket is for the filter with return line. This was mounted under the intake at front.

I can't believe I forgot this but reason being is my AC equipped '66 is a factory anomaly. I am the second owner and it never had a return line and or any signs that it ever did. I was planning on adding in a faux filter set up but still have not.

I make them out of Fram filters which fit well

Looking again at your bracket that in not the correct one for AC models.
I think it could be modified to mount a switch but not sure.

I used those pictures that I found online as an example. I’ll get actual pictures of mine tomorrow and post them. They are still on the car. I also need a manual trans carb if you know anyone that wants to part with one. Mine has an automatic carb on it.

Great information here.

I think Pontiac may have stacked 2 brackets on AC cars, with the AC idle up solenoid bracket on bottom and the fuel line support bracket on top.

You can see it in the 4th picture Jeff posted in his response #6. That is my 66 and it has been like that since the car was parked in a field in 1971.

Or it may have the shorter fuel line support added on the end of the idle up bracket. It is possible that Pontiac used more than 1 way to get it done back then.

If yours is like mine and you need more pictures just let me know.

You know I looked at that photo many many times and never took note of the "Stacked" brackets used??
While not factory it is clever ;)

You are correct in as far as it being a small bolt on extension piece used to support the hose.

Here is a picture of mine. That makes more sense that they would be stacked. Someone may have put mine on incorrectly at some point. Thanks for the replies. This is helping me out a lot!

I went digging to see if there may be a definitive bracket layout and found nothing. Both in the Service and Air Conditioning Manuals as well as the parts book.

As with anything on these old cars it is very likely that a stacked bracket set up was also used, it seems to fit well and matches up nicely so I would think it's good.

Your bracket has indeed been re-installed incorrectly.
