Rear Bumper Removal 1970-73 TA.
I’d like to either replace my rear bumper or send it out for powder coat. Either approach will require R&R - which is new territory for me. One source online suggests accessing the brackets through the trunk(?)
Any pointers or guidance on where to find and how to most easily access the brackets is greatly appreciated! |
All mounting bolts are in trunk. 2 on each side and 6 I recall against the back panel. You will have to unplug the license plate lamp wire inside the trunk and pop the seal down through the hole into the gass fill tunnel.
You will get bumper and mounts in hand. I would blast and powder coat the mounts. The bumper.. re chrome, there are a few options. Ames, our host, has repop bumpers ( the brackets too) that fit pretty nicely. |

I may order a new chrome bumper and swap it so I have something back there while the current bumper is out at powder coat. And I may decide I prefer the chrome look (!) |
