Hydraulic lifter selection

I don't intend to start a long discussion thread about this. Ive looked over past years discussions on this topic looking for guidance for the best lifters to buy and it seems that the general conclusion was that Hylift Johnson/Rhoads would be the best, or at least you wouldn't go wrong. Is this still true today?

I use nothing but Hylift Johnson lifters in my builds for customers. I buy them in trays with 96 lifters in each tray. Never had any issues with them

I`ve got Johnson, non HI Lift, lifters. No problems. They were bought in 2010. Who knows about now as far as quality.

Rhoads lifters are Hi-Lift Johnson lifters modified by Rhoads to make them fast bleed.

Since there are only 2 lifter makers now I would look for reboxed Hi-Lift Johnson lifters. Say like a L951X lifter if one wants to save a few bucks?

As long as it says made in the USA on the box you will be fine. Stay away from the China versions, of everything...

I would check this tread out which is recent: "Any suggestions to resolve noisy lifter issue"
I have Johnson Hi-Lifts (951R) which were recommended to me by this forum. They are, to me, the perfect HFT lifter.
Best of luck with the lifter problem.

For a flat tappet hyd cam there is only one choice, Hy-Lift Johnson 951R. If you get something else and it's working that's great but you got lucky. Correct preload is 1/2 the total travel, measure the travel then set it in the middle.
