I remember when our local show repair shop closed. Such a shame, they resoled my Tony Lama boots twice ... another one of those lost arts. I have noticed the Millennial gen has taken an interest in shoe repair, quite a few videos of youngish guys in the business.
In Europe they are still thriving ... cause not everyone wears sneakers over there. I love the machines used in shoe repair, some very seriously heavy duty sewing machines. |
Yeah, l wish that l had learned the trade. My father was an only son and was expected to pass it down to one of my brothers or myself but he died very young and my grandparents were just too old to maintain it long enough for us to become adults. It hung on for another 10 years or so and shut down around 1980. The brick and mortar business opened in 1870 and my Great Grandfather had actually been doing it since he was a teenager 10 or 15 years before that.
