17x9 honeys...Raising White Letters from the grave?
 

Hi Fellas:

I have a '74 T/A that the previous owner donned with the old school chrome 15" wheels.

Since I'm going with a more modern theme (not original motor/owner), I was toying with the idea of swapping them for the newer bandit rally's or the 17" cast honeys they have now.

However, it doesn't seem like any manufacturer offers a 17" tire with the classic raised white lettering that belong on this car. Was that a recent event as I have seen some cars with it or am I just looking in the wrong places?

There are places that sell white letters that you can stick on to blackwalls. They also sell paint pens you can use to color in the existing letters. Here's one place, there are others. They do have letters that are officially licensed by Goodyear. https://www.tirestickers.com

To my knowledge, tires in 17" fitments have almost never been offered with raised white lettering.

Any place you've seen white lettering on a 17" fitment tire, it was likely painted on or applied as a sticker by the owner. The tire paint pens are less expensive, but suffer from the same issues people complain about with the BFG lettering, it tents to brown and chip away. Most cars I see these days that have good looking white lettering use stickers.

Has anyone tried the stickers? I can't see how they would hold up to pressure washing and the like.

Maybe 15s are in my future after all.

Myself, I hate white letter tires, but if you like them, here's a way you can have any tire converted to white letters.

I think the larger diameter tyres need the RWL to keep in touch with retro looks, just part of these cars. These are mine from 10+ years ago. Tyre choices are a little different now, especially what can be imported around the world.

The vendor claims the stickers and glue are durable, but I wonder which would be better as I'm a set it and forget it guy

Trevor those look really nice. Did you use the stickers or the paint and how did it hold up over time?

They are laser cut white rubber I arranged for my tyres long before they started selling them as a kit for some. They still look exactly the same, but then have only been stacked up since new. Will probably never see the road.

Is your friend also in Australia?! No, entire car is the same and lost momentum when screwed over with paint shops years ago. Now it just sits and has old tyres.
