1966 XS GTO
 

So a little back story about my car. The original owner went to Royal Oak, MI and got the car at Royal Pontiac. My dad bought the car from the original owner and then sold it in 78 or 79. The same guy kept it all these years, he passed a few years back and I was able to buy the car from his wife. It was ordered as a drag car and I have the original window sticker and it is an XS car. The problem is the 389 is long gone and has a 400 in it. It still has the tripower on it. So needless to say I'm looking for a needle in a haystack. If there are any leads on an xs engine please let me know. The 400 runs very well so if I can't find an xs block I'd rather not get rid of the 400.

Built in Pontiac Michigan, body was built 2nd week of February of 1966.

Thanks for informing us about your 66 RamAir GTO
It would have had a metal base pan that fit over all 3 carbs and sealed up against underside of the hood scoop - with an open scoop inlet.
And if I remember correctly - all came with 4.33 rear gears

Have encountered less than a dozen documented 66 XS RamAir cars in the past 35 years
Probably way more than that still exist in some form , but have never had PHS ran on them.

Yea I ran the PHS on it. It was used as a drag car so the engine and scoop pan are long gone. From what I've been told by the original owner is that he didn't like the performance of the 389. So he replaced it almost right away with a 421 that he had in his previous drag car. I have a pretty good feeling of where the original 389 went. The guy that I suspect ended up with it absolutely would not sell it.

Is it still the original hood and scoop with the modified hood structure? Definitely a rare car.
