Quadrajet fuel inlet thread repair Q.
 

Looking for a machine shop that can install a Heli-coil type thread insert for a Quadrajet fuel inlet. Thinking there was a post here a couple years ago, but can't find it.

Cliff Ruggles is who I would reach out to.

you can buy kits;
it’s essentially a heilicoil kit.
Not many of us have them because they are pretty expensive.

I have the kit .. Not sure if they are sold anymore.. But work great,but you only get one shot with these..

Cliff has retired and is not likely to be taking on any new work but maybe I’m wrong.

I would hit up shaker455, he’s another great carburetor guy who specializes in custom carbs. Repairing your stripped fuel inlet would be something he could easily handle.

$211.00 is not bad considering, If you did two it would be worth it. If you are saving a special carburetor it's certainly worth it.

Like 70RAIII says you definitely get one shot though...

Cliff installed a heli coil for me about a month ago. Works great.

Thanks for the help guys. Was tempted to do this myself, but as you said, I only get one shot at this.
BTW, it's a 7041268 bowl. So not cheap to find another original.

Come on Ric you can do it.

Maybe buy a junker to practice on?

That's not a bad idea. I have a few late Chevy pickup carbs I got given for parts.

The only part that concerns me is the initial hole boring/drilling. after that, no problemo.

Of course I'd still have to find one of those HeliCoil kits. :rolleyes:

When in doubt, send it out. :)

Don’t take a chance with possibly scrapping the body on a rare expensive carb, let a professional do it that’s done hundreds of them and understands the value of what they’re working on.

I bought a kit years ago. More than paid for itself. Not that hard if you have ever done any drilling/tapping.
