California looking to ban Chrome Plating by 2027.

Condensed version: "The California Air Resources Board is proposing a ban of chromium or chrome-6 by 2027 and a ban on the use of the compound for industrial durability by 2039."

I thought they would have killed that industry long ago.

What will they do if the electric cars need chrome somewhere in the the system to function? Import from china? The same air will behind the product delivered!

Wouldn't all chrome plating just move south across the border? I actually thought this had allready occurred.

There’s always nickel plating. A quick question: what is the aviation industry supposed to do? Aircraft landing gear lower pistons are chrome plated.

The state of California has been on the hunt for chrome plating facilities for many years.

At one time I was involved with the largest electroplating facility west of the Mississippi, located in Southern California. Although no longer in business today at the height of operation we employed about 1200 people on three shifts.

Over twenty years ago we were getting visits from the STATE OF CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY DEPARTMENT OF TOXIC SUBSTANCES CONTROL. They were inspecting all our flooring and literally crawling into every nook and cranny seeking to determine the nature and extent of any release of hazardous waste or hazardous waste constituents. We were not alone, of concern at all plating facilities are heavy metals, acids, petroleum products, volatile and semi volatile organic compounds. We received our supply of 500,000 gallons of water per day from our own uncontaminated wells.

Most just send their stuff to Mexico. I'm fortunate enough to have a chrome shop kinda local to me. So that's cool.


California on the other hand, is not cool.
