Trim under the steering column? 1967 GTO
 

So doing some work under the dash today, second GTO I've done, and noticed what appear to be mounting holes under the steering column in the instrument panel housing. Neither Ames, NPD. or OPGI list a part that would go there.

Was there ever one? Tried to post a pic but it won't go.

No trim to speak of but there are 3 mounting screw holes.

'67 did away with the cover plate that used these holes when they introduced the collapsible steering column. i placed one over the column area to demonstrate what was used in '66.

Is that not for the plate that holds the DS under dash AC vent?

Good thought but the DS Lap Vent is low and off to the RH side,
mounted with a single screw to the very bottom brace of the dash structure, not the Benzel.

I was thinking this but personally have never seen a '67 Benzel with these provisions.

I thought it was called the plate plug. The judges at the gtoaa show said the plate plug and gasket were missing on my car. I assumed they were talking about the cover plate underneath the steering column, so they must be referring to some other part. My car is a 67 also. Anybody know what part they are referring to?

Yes - the two holes you reference in your first picture.

Mine has two additional holes between the two you circled on the lower left.

I figured out my own question. It's the plastic cover plate that goes underneath the steering column and attaches where the base of the column goes through the firewall.
