SMI carburetors

I'm look for a quadrajet for my fresh 461 until I get my tri power back from being restored.

Has anyone used the SMI carbs? If so any thoughts.

Thanks, in advance!

I think Tom S uses Sean for most of his. He used to work for Brad Urban at The Carb Shop years ago. Actually was the rep at their booth at an old NMCA event in Memphis years ago I talked to.

He does all my carbs, have a AFB down there right now.As like most of the good guys he is busy.He just did a 76 QJ for me,gave him all the engine specs, fired right up with no issues. Not the cheapest but one of the best IMO.Tom

I was looking at his off the shelf carbs. I'm assuming he can calibrate it for my application?

I had a 1970 quadra jet on my 461 in my 69 gto and it ran well. I needed to recalibrate the idle passages to maintain a nice idle. I just bought a stage 2 from Butler Performance that SMI built. 800 cfm and wow what a difference! 461, ported edelbrock d port heads, 7156 edelbrock proformer, 10.75:1 zero decked , crower 60243 with 1.52 rockers., coa 20211-4 2500 stall, 3.55 . Love driving it!

SMI is a good place to deal with.

I’ve been happy with mine. 2 years of flawless operation.

I got Sean's Stage 2 QJ for my 428. He had a sheet for me to complete with the details of my engine. He doea a great job, no complaints. I had contacted Clif about doing it but he had a six month backlog st the time and couldn't help me. Sean furnished the QJ which was a '70's 800 cfm model wiith APT which was a nice bonus over my original.

Carbs we have purchased from Sean have been dead nuts on and were basically bolt on and run. Two of Quadrajets the idle mixture screws and throttle screw were correct out of the box, and that's almost eerie.

tom s 03-06-2023 10:38 PM

Mike,he might have run them on his car!Tom

We have ordered direct from Sean at SMI and is always a great experiance. All of his Qjets we have used have worked fantastic. The estimated build time is usually always dead on as well. Ray Klemm at CRK Performance would be another excellent person to talk too, as he worked alongside Cliff Ruggles for several years building QJets for him.
