Never my favourite band but an amazingly energetic rhythm section at the Fillmore September 1970.

Never been to the East but went to Fillmore West in San Francisco 1970. Seen Boz Scaggs and Mothers of Invention with Frank Zappa. They played some nasty songs.

One of my favorite albums was recorded there on New Years Eve, 1969/1970.
Band of Gypsys.

March 12th & 13th 1971. The Allman Brothers got paid $1250. because the headliners were Johnny Winter and Elvin Bishop.
Of course their album, Allman Brothers Band Live At Fillmore East is one of the best ever.
When music was played for the love of music, not the love of money.
We live in a different world and not a better one.

To be clear, back then everyone made money except for the bands...the promoters, record labels, etc. got rich off them.

No one has mentioned Ten Years After. Their music was wild. Alvin Lee is up there, with guitar greats.
Their song, I'd Love to Change the World, I consider to be one of rock and rolls foundation songs, Ever!!!

I wish Alvin Lee was still around, and the opportunity to talk to him. In their song, the Words, I'd Love to Change to World, are immediately followed by the words, But I don't know what to do???

Good grief the Allman brother played so damn well on album, and in video at the Fillmore. Shows their money was in th album sales.

Zeppelin didn't play East, did Zep play West? And surely Zep money was in the Concerts AND Album Sales.

Zeppelin played both of the East & West venues.
And had a little ruckus at the West show.

Grahams venues got squeezed out when bigger venues started hosting rock concerts.
10,000 - 20,000 tickets per show versus 2500-3000 at Fillmores.
Everyone made more money going elsewhere , except Graham.
He closed both East & West along the same time in mid-1971.

Is said that the Allman Brothers did the last show at East
And Creedence Clearwater Revival did the last show at West

Correct about the last shows Allman Brothers East, CCR West

The musicians played for the love of music. The promoters and labels exploited them for the love of money. Today you don’t find as many talented musicians because the ones that become popular are in it for the money and are promoted. You can often find more raw talent at a local event.

Yes, Zeppelin played at both East & West. Look at the ticket prices!

I wonder if Fillmore had flat rate admission prices back then , regardless of what band was playing ?

One guys account about a Zeppelin East Show (early time slot) was his $5 ticket was only $4 by advance mail order.
He posted a picture of the $5 stub.

In 1977 I paid $6 to see ZZTop-Neil Loffken ,,, $7 to see Skynyrd- Nazareth ,,, $10 to see Zeppelin
All at Greensboro NC Coliseum

Skynyrd and Zeppelin never came back to Greensboro again.
Zeppelin was banned after the 77 show anyway.
10 year Skynyrd Tribute Tour came in 1988 and I went to that.

Good eyes on that poster HIS .
The song "Rock n Roll" didn't come about until during the recording session for album #4 in early 1971.
It just sort of sprang up while they were working on Four Sticks.

Didn't know these facts before , and figured they may have already had both those songs in que ,
and were giving out early doses of them at live shows.

But reality looks like the poster is counterfeit , weird they used 2 songs that expose it.
Saw one listed as a first printing for over $300.


Found an account that said Fillmore West had them pre-listed as Yardbirds on the marquee for a few days ,
then it changed it to Led Zep.
That must have been one of their very first big american gigs.

Pete Townshend of The Who said he really admired Fillmore East
It was clean and luxurious on the inside.
Made them feel more prominent than any previous place.
