Aluminum and copper

Quick question, in a nutshell… Is it okay to run copper header gaskets on my shiny new round port aluminum heads?
I think it must be okay since copper cylinder head gaskets are readily available, unless they’re only used with cast iron heads.

I seem to vaguely recall some science class jazz about anodes, cathodes and electrolytes and one of the metals slowly “dissolving” (more like pitting) the other. Also remember hearing something about it as more of a maritime concern that boaters talked about. And we all know boaters are largely belligerent drunks anyway, haha.

If you don't have gaskets yet you might consider Remflex.
They're pretty awesome.

I run Remflex all the time. Takes all of the leaky headers problem away.

To answer the question- no problem with copper gaskets against aluminum.

I could tell that there was always just a small amount of exhaust gas getting past the copper gaskets. Not enough to hear but I could see faint soot trails. The good news is the leak never got any bigger so I guess the gaskets were a success. On the street cars my only current choice is Remflex with one set now over a dozen years since installation.

The start of a Exh leak when running headers and a Exh system on the end if them is the headers getting yanked around during engine movement while supporting the Exh system.

A header should not be used to support the front of a Exh system, the head pipes should be supported at the trans crossmember.

That makes sense, but I've never seen it. Can you show what that cross member support would look like?

Remflex and be done, no need for RTV and will not leak.

Here is a chart that illustrates your concern, .. Dont want to be in the red

I’m guessing a typical exhaust hanger would work with a little creativity.
