He called the car a non-runner.
If you look at the car during his "walk-around", you'll see what looks like fresh mud on the passenger side rear tire and see that same mud slung up on the rear quarter and up in front of the rear wheel. That car had to be running for that mud to get where it is.
I like Derrick and his show, but I gotta call BS on this one.

I like Derek a lot and watch all his stuff except the NASCAR related vids. That is one hell of a nice '68 Bonneville, IMO.

I'd love to have that car. 14" wheels on a '68 B-body? Is that right? I thought they went to 15" in the mid sixties or so.

Nope. They went from 15" to 14" in the late '50's to lower the profile of the car. Went back to 15" in the '70's with the advent of radial tires.

I think the switch to 14” wheels which began on some GM brands in 1957 was also instituted for softening the ride. The larger section size of the 14” tires allowed for lower tire pressures and gave cars that living room couch ride.

Correct- Pontiac switched to 14" wheels for '57, to get the cars a little lower. Was a Divisional-level change- Buick kept 15" rims to clear their big 12" drums.

What was the bolt pattern?
The reason I'm curious about it is a fellow pulled up in a newly bought 67 Catalina at a cruise last weekend. Very clean, not restored but painted car. 2 door fastback. It had 15" rally II wheels on it that he said he was going to remove but he was complaining that the wheels were 4.75-in spacing and that he had to use an adapter. I'm wondering if he's confused about that.... Or maybe the wheels were on a 5 inch spacing and I misunderstood him.

All my big cars thru 1974 were 5" bc.

So, I may have misunderstood him. He was probably complaining about needing an adapter for the 4.75" spacing on the wheels.

He’s likely unaware that those wheels are also available in the 5 on 5” pattern, though not quite as common as the 5 on 4.75” wheels they’re out there. Had a few sets myself but have since sold them all, I even pulled the set off was using on my car trailer and replaced them with Chevy pickup 15x7” steel wheels so I could cash in on the Rally wheels.

The 5x5 wheels seem to be kind of tough to find. Doesn't matter to this guy anyway. He didn't like the Rally II wheels. Said he wants chrome Torque Thrusts.
He may have had a different opinion if the previous owner hadn't painted the charcoal portion of the Rally's appliance white. :gag:

Apparently, they went back and forth a bit. I had a '78 Bonneville and when I sold it, I held on to the 15" steel wheels and ran them on my GTO with poverty caps for a while so they were obviously a 5x4.75 pattern but I'm pretty sure the big early 70s B bodies like the Grandvilles were 5x5. I would think so anyway.

By the way, my friend took a picture of the '67. Very nice driver with a well done Maaco type single stage paint job. The wheels were strictly gloss white Rust-Oleum rattle canned though. Interior was very good and original.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...127bdc0f00.jpg

Full size Pontiacs used the 5 x 5 bolt pattern from I think as far back as the 1940s, up through 1976. In 1977 they were downsized and most full size cars went to the 5 x 4.75 pattern, but the 5 x 5 pattern was retained for station wagons and police cars through 1986. In 1987 the full size cars went to a front wheel drive configuration.

5 on 5 for sure.
 

67 is definitely 5 on 5.

I had 2 -74 one white other bronze Granvilles w 455s. Both had 5" bc. The white 2 door had adjustable pedals.Car rode nice and was comfortable and a good winter car.The bronze( sat forever),one was loaded. Even had 5" rally wheels. Sold them for decent price. Kept the engines and transmissions.
