Hood Hinge Repair by Willie Wilson

Sending hood and door hinges from my '64 GTO, daily driver, to HHR. Looking for advice/comments/pics on the hood hinge finish. Original was a natural metal finish. Narrowed down two 2 choices, price is not a factor.

-Satin Black powder coat; darker than original, holds up better than paint, must be lubed annually with Seafoam Deep Creep $75
-Eastwood Zinc Phosphate paint; closer color to original, 'lifetime' lubed with white lithium $25

Anyone used HHR and have pics to post?

Thanks

I used him and got the grey., looks awesome. I'm not a numbers guy and the color looks good to me.

I did a set of hinges with the eastwood zinc phosphate paint and lubed with white lithium. Looks and holds up well. I bead blasted the hinges to a slightly roughed texture which really helped paint adhesion and looked more like a real phosphate texture.

I used them a few years ago for some 67 GTO and 68 Firebird hinges. I opted for the “coating”, expecting the real deal. When they arrived it was obvious that it was a spray bomb finish. Considering that the rivet pins should have been natural steel, I was a little less than 100% pleased.
I made a call to them about it. He ( the son?) admitted it was Eastwood paint. The website did not specify that at the time. I don’t know if they do now.
As far as quality of repair and function, I give them an “A”.

Willie did my hood hinges and I went with the phosphate paint. May not be 100% original but look good and I am very happy with the workmanship.

I contacted them and they do not Phosphate, but spray paint it on. I dont know why not? Its not hard to do. I wonder if I can do it, after I get it back from them? Just dunk the whole hinge in? I would think a rebuilder could do the correct finish?

I got the hinges back a couple weeks ago and they look great! I went with the phosphate paint. For those who want the zinc plated, Willie is not your guy. It clearly states on the page that there are 2 options, paint or powder coat.
