vacuum pump recommendation
 

Hey guys,
any body have recommendation on a vacuum pump. It appears my vacuum canister will not provide adequate vacuum to operate my power brakes. I have seen these things go from 50 - 1000 bucks and just want to be get a decent one and be safe.

There quite a few late model cars that use a electric vacuum pump. I'm sure they would be cheap from a salvage yard. I cant name one right now, off the top of my head. https://www.amazon.com/Auxiliary-Ele...52944119&psc=1

Check diesel trucks in the junkyard.
You can buy one new at the auto parts store but they will be a couple hundred bucks.

Yeah, I have seen that model and was wondering if that would work and give me the vacuum i need?

9 times out of 10, the problem is the booster you have on the car, leaking, or not enough boost.

You are better off going to a 9" dual diaphragm booster if it's due to low vacuum from cam selection.

Vacuum pumps are problematic, and either don't provide enough boost or 'run out' before you're done needing vacuum. Not to mention most are loud, and vibrate a ton.

Just for reference, the new 9" dual diaphragm booster on my Right Stuff 4 disc conversion wouldn't adequately stop my GTO (couldn't lock 'em up). No leaks. Pulling about 15" at idle. Replacement MC sent (different DIA) and different pads did not make enough difference.

Hydroboost system fixed all that, but obviously not a cheap alternative. Works good though. :)

Interesting. I would have to suspect there may have been something else off, and the hydroboost masked it. Maybe pin depth/contact is off?

I'm pulling like 13", have a C6 front brake setup on front, 98 SS rear setup, and it def locks 'em up.

Have one on the 442, it has about 14.5", and it will throw you thru the windshield if youre not careful.

RIght Stuff claims 'no' and wouldn't replace. I am in agreement that it was probably inferior, but wasn't willing to throw more money at it/to them.

I do like the hydroboost and since my GTO is a little left of center (although NM engine/drivetrain), it's all good.

Now to get the failing upper ball joints replaced <sigh>.
