Brake Pedal Removal
 

Working on my FIL' Firebird. What does it take to get the brake pedal out of the car to switch from a manual to automatic pedal. In my Tempest the brake pedal pushrod is held on by a cotter pin. On this car there is a pin with the common clip but once its off there is no room to push the pin out as the pin hits the column assembly. Is there a trick I am missing?

What year? 67-68 are different from 69.

If it’s a 67-68 the brake pedal should be able to be removed from the carrier and simply replaced with the proper dual set.

If it’s a 69, unless you can find the 69 specific pedals (not reproduced) you have to remove the carrier and replace it with a 69 Camaro carrier and its pedal set. That’s a more involved project.

It’s a 68

If it's a 68, you can source reproduction pedals from any of the typical places. They should be held together with a pin in the pedal carrier. Other than having to crawl under the dash, it should be a straight forward swap. Pull the pin for the brake pedal, remove and replace with the new pedals, insert pin, then hook the pedals to their respective linkages.

I have the pedal. The pin is the problem. It doesnt have enough room to slide out of the carrier assembly because it hits.
