Last few weeks have not been good

Lost my old dad on July 9th. He was a month short of 99y/o. Thankfully he passed with almost no pain, his body just started to fail. He had a stroke 8 weeks ago, he had 10 days in hospital, 4 weeks in a rehabilitation centre then 10 days in a care facility. He just slowly faded out but was alert and happy right up to the last 24 hours.
He lived with us for the past 2 years, I am especially grateful to my wife for the loving care she gave my Dad.
Dad was a WW11 veteran. He flew Wellington bombers in Coastal Command looking for U-boats. He met my mother in England, the married in 1945 and were married for 77 years. My mother survives him.

And not to make light of my Dads passing, a week before he passed our faithful Kelpie (14 y/o), suffered a seizure and we had to have him put down.

So not a good few weeks here.
Ian

Ian - sorry to hear of your loss. Always tough to lose a parent.

While difficult now, in days to come, you will look back with fondness of the memories of your Dad's last years with you.

Sounds like you have a real "keeper" in the wife!

Another member of the "Greatest Generation" has departed. My Condolences.

I'm sure the 'Sky Pilot' met him when he took off on his final flight

Sorry for you loss but wow what an amazing life 99 years old. The stories he must have told ,the things he must have seen and done.

Condolences for your loss. I'm taking grief workshop at St Vincent College. They are saying the grief will last till we pass. Society some times say ' get over it and move on'. I have good memories of my family and lately the loss of my wife. So I trust in the creator.

Feel your pain and loss. Lost my Mom on Mothers Day at 101. She lived a full life like your Dad and was full of piss and vinegar to the end.

Sorry for your loss. It sounds like both your parents lived a long, and happy life. 77 years together!
Just remember you’ll see him again some day!

So sorry for your loss. Respectfully, it’s hard to lose one family member never mind two in a week. Thanks to your Dad for his Service.

It’s sad losing parents, both of mine passed in their mid-80s about 4 years ago within a year of each other.

You were blessed with a father who lived 99 years and was in good health almost to the end, all of us should be so lucky. :)

My sincere condolences to you and your family.

Ian, my condolences to you and your family. Your dad was blessed with a good life and length of days. He sounds like several of the “greatest generation” that I have been honored to have known over the years. Losing a “fur baby” can be nearly as traumatic as losing a family member; it’s nothing to scoff at. Been through it more times than I care to think about, yet it never gets easier.
