Original belt replacement
 

I guess its time to change the original belts on my 77 transam. I have the 400 engine. Will anyone suggest the closest belts to original that I can buy? I may be a little lazy here but I'm just tired of looking. Thanks so much in advance, Paul

OK, Napa it is, since its the only place I can find around me that sells the regular v belt and not the cogged belt.

Did you try Ames?
I was getting a lot of small motor stuff from napa for my 77, The last 3 orders I got for the motor for my 79 came in wrong. Even after the website said 'fits your car'. I gave up and placed the same order from AMES. At least when they say it fits your car they are correct.

Are you concerned with originality or function? Cogged belts are supposed to run cooler, last longer & are a little more efficient which is why most aftermarket belts are made that way today. Maybe Ames or classic etc carries a more correct looking belt?

I have some non cogged V belts saved & in use, for the most part the cogged ones seem to last longer & reduce slippage, the V belts seem to get a shiny glaze on them long before the cogged ones.

if its not an originality issue, a gates or acdelco from rock auto would be a good choice.

I just picked up the GM belt manual, it was only $10 at a swap, gives you all the info on belt replacement, I found a local guy with hundreds of OG belts I recently bought all 3 for my TA same codes as on the build sheet. Their out there if you look.
