Jimmy Buffet passes away

I wasn't familiar with his music, other than the Margarita song, but around 1990 some friends offered me a ticket to his concert. Somewhat reluctantly I went, and to my surprise it was a blast. The whole crowd was singing every song and he put on a great performance. I have to say it's still one of the top ten concerts I've ever attended. RIP JB!

My wife and I were so fortunate to see him live for our 30th anniversary. My daughter and son-in law got us tickets in the 10th row and 2 Hawaiian shirts and off we went. Got to the venue 2 1/2 hours early and who is one of the first people we see? Jimmy Buffet riding his bike around the venue grounds, acoustic guitar over his back. It was surreal. He would stop to talk to fans, sign a few things, play a small portion of some obscure song someone wanted to hear. I have NEVER seen a star performer do anything like this. I found out later this was common for him. He put on a flawless show and left an impression we will never forget. This was five years ago and he was already a billionaire. He was the real deal. A pop culture icon. RIP Jimmy Buffet.

RIP Jimmy. I'll bet it was a pleasure to be in his company most any day of his life, what a laid back dude. His music brings many fond memories of my youth.
In troubled times there was never a better reprieve for me other than jumping in a car and just driving, no direction, no decisions, just Jimmy in the 8 track. I don't think he intended on finding that lost shaker of salt. It's not about the destination, it's all about the trip. A true icon, he'll missed and remembered well. Frank |
was just sent an article that said hes been battling skin cancer for 4 yrs,
and continued to perform in spite of this. His last performance was in July. |
So sad to hear he had passed. I've been a fan of his since my early college days, including multiple trips to see him at Timberwolf and Riverbend in Cincinnati. Him playing five sold out shows in a row at Riverbend was amazing, shows were legendary. Sometimes he would also book his band under another name - at some small dive bar around the Cincinnati area for later the same night as one of his shows. A friend of mine happened to catch these shenanigans once at a small bar, the band name was something hilariously inappropriate - sadly I cant remember. It was occasionally 'Freddie and the Fish Sticks'.
His music always resonated with me, sometimes being the pick me up on a bad day - or road music on a long driving trip, etc. |
