Turbo wheels

Hi guys

The wheels on my TATA have gloss black paint in the 'fin' recesses....the wheels I see in online pics have natural aluminum in the recesses.

Were mine painted by a PO? If so they did a good job masking.

I like the look with the black paint. Just wondering if this could be original. In some spots there is a reddish paint showing under the black. Primer possibly, or someone had painted red, then someone else painted black?

That does look good! The wheels also look like they've been polished or machined, though, at least compared to all the ones I've owned or seen. Maybe they were painted and then polished or machined to clean up the edges? Either way, I like it a lot.

Definitely looks polished & painted, all the TATA's ive seen arent painted. A friend owns 2 of them and the wheels are as cast in the fins & have a much duller look.

Yours look nice though so up to you on keeping them. Nice M/T tires!

Blacked out holes looks way better than brake dust stains on polished wheels.

Did mine the same way after polishing.

Thanks guys for replies.
Figured they were modified, but done well and I like it.

My first set of MT's....less expensive than BFG, higher speed rating and in my opinion a better look. I replaced decades old shocks with Bilsteins at the same time so hard to say how much improvement is attributable to the tires, but the ride is now fantastic.

I scrubbed the new tires and wheels with dish detergent to remove blue stuff, then did a light polish on center of wheels with #0000 steel wool.

I will be sticking with MT.

I would hand paint the background on my snowflake wheels that came on my 1981 Bonneville. Good old-fashioned Rust-o-leum gloss enamel lasted the best. It really set off the rib pattern.
