Typical enclosed transport costs.
 

What would be a ballpark figure to expect for enclosed transport for a 68 GTO for about 1100 miles? Car is running and driveable, also registered and insured.

Also ... any tips on moving farm equipment. I need to move two tractors, one compact (Ford 1715 with BH and Bucket) approx. 5000 lbs? A Kubota BX2200 about 2000 lbs, various implements, disker, rock rake, Three point mounted wood chipper. Same 1100 mile trip. These items don't need to be enclosed of course.

This past March I paid Intercity Lines $2295 to bring a '63 Lemans from Long Beach. Ca. to Beaumont, Tx in a large enclosed eighteen wheeler. Distance was 1636 miles and it took five days after he picked my car up at Tom S place. Inter city was about $200 cheaper than Reliable which many consider the gold standard. Jay Leno uses Intercity and that was good enough for me. Call them and they will give you a quote. There are plenty of haulers cheaper than them.

Hagerty Driver's Club membership has a 10% off cost of hauling with Reliable benefit. I got a Reliable quote. Then joined the Hagerty Driver's Club. Then got another quote from Reliable. Yep. 10% off is legitimate. Saved me a few hundred bucks!

I've got Hagerty Insurance so I'll give that a look.

I was budgeting about $2500 so I'm in the ball park.

Probably going to need a tractor/trailer lowboy to move the tractors.

The actual cost of any service provided
depends on the actual scope of the work
involved - not just what someone believes
is required.

In the case of auto transport - no trip involves
just the mileage from the pick up to the
drop off - mileage is required to get to the
pick up location and someone has to pay
for it - it is not free.

Folks tend to “ think with their wallet “
which is a polite way of saying they view
a service as a good - they compare cost
per mile without considering type of service.

I couldn’t be in business if I charged the
rates quoted by auto transport brokers.
Every major carrier is an auto transport broker.

Every day I converse with vehicle sellers
and prospective buyers and shoppers and
owners - the advice I give is based upon
what is in their best interest - not mine.

95% of the time I am not what they are
looking for - that is the nature of auto
transport - most folks do not want to
pay for the level of service I provide.

For the OP and everyone else reading this…

Deal directly with the person driving the truck
pulling the trailer your vehicle will be
either on or in - anyone is a salesman
who has little or no actual experience
providing the service you are looking for.

My situation is probably going to require a rather tight timeline. Probably a one or two month window max where I will own both properties, and can be at both properties for pickup and dropoff.
Moving from NY to TN. NY property is secure, so the car can wait there, property in TN is not secure so I can't move the car there until I am LIVING there.

I would be at the pickup location, and then would make the drive to TN at the same time as the car transport to be present for the drop off.

What's a typical lead time to schedule a transport?

In a month or so the driving conditions
will dictate wether or not a vehicle
can be safely transported.

Ideally - like moving household goods
it is preferred vehicles be transported
when the owner is ready - but in reality
unless the weather and a
hauler’s schedule cooperates.
that isn’t going to happen
at a price point and/or timeframe
that is ideal for the vehicle owner.

Someone moving needs to make
arrangements for pick up and drop off
of a vehicle so that it available earlier
or later than is ideal for them.

The best thing to do is get on someone’s
schedule and let them build a trip to
transport with as much notice as possible.
