68 Power Antenna Help
 

The threads on my power antenna housing are trashed to the point that the threads look tapered. I when I put the antenna through the quarter panel I can't get the chrome nut to start on the housing because the threads are so bad. I've tried filing them but that hasn't helped. Is there a way to fix them or is the answer to find a new housing with better threads?

Maybe try a few drops of red loctite and carefully thread the nut on by hand.
If this doesnt work try fine copper wire wrapped same direction as threads.
This has worked for me to fix stripped threads but its a bandaid approach.

I have used weedwhacker line to tighten up threads. For a fine thread, like that probably is, maybe a heavy fishing line.
EDIT Sorry, just realized that you don't have loose threads, you have ruined threads. One thing that I have had limited success with is taking a sharp triangle file and filing three grooves into the threads of the nut. It makes a fair dye/thread restorer.

Yes, sorry this is a coupe. I'm very hesitant to use a quick fix. I would love to find a permanent fix because this is a frame off restoration. My fear is that I need to try and find a better housing or worse yet spend the $$ for a new power antenna that has better threads.
