Cast #7044620 in ring at back is used, among others, for 1969 7029270 SR units mfd in the 70īs, but SR units donīt have plant codes, and the secondary number stamped beneath fuel inlet is wrong for the 7029270 SR unit.
Iīd spell "Frankencarb" on this carburetor. |
Why would you think this is a SR carb vs a dated original carb ?

Looks to be a pretty obvious restamp to me - just by the stamping itself
It also wouldn't have the compensator plate on the back. They are not machined for screw threads to mount that plate. |

Yet it is trying to pass off as a production carb by using an assembly line pick code and a 69 date code. Its a Frank |
to me, that first picture absolutely sinks it.
That is absolutely a restamp. Second picture only confirmed it. I have recorded that that particular fuel bowl casting number was used for SR 1969 Pontiac carbs. A casting number is simply a part that had yet to be finished, I'd re-read Kenth's post, in my opinion that one is pure gold as far as you should be concerned. I had been watching the selling prices of these, aren't '9270 SR carbs still fairly attainable? If they are, I'd steer FAR away from the likes of this, and just keep an eye out for a nice SR unit. |
