Adhesive for reattaching dash pad to "shell"?

Hi all,

Apologize since this isn't a pontiac but there's so much collective expertise here. Need to reattach the vinyl on my '76 cutlass dash to the inner shell. I bought a two part epoxy but then started thinking it might be too strong, and prevent any disassembly in the future if needed, etc.

Would it be better to use trim adhesive or some other type of glue?

Assume I will hold the vinyl in position with harbor freight clamps while it sets?

Thanks for any advice!

dont laugh but last repair I did I used Gorilla glue.
Clamp with paint stir sticks to prevent dents and leave for at least a day.

Thanks - still considering this project. The paint sticks suggestion is a good one.

I'm thinking I might need to remove the dash to do this right as its difficult to get the clamps onto the back side of the dash to hold things in place.

Its weird how some dashes I see on ebay seem to not have this problem at all, while others do. Maybe the good dashes have been repaired as I assume its primarily an age thing, although I suppose it could also be a climate/garaged thing. I believe my car was garaged most of its life but I don't really know. Rest of interior is great but dash is hurting.

Thanks again.

as the vinyl ages it loses its elasticity and shrinks and does some weird things.
Be mindful that at this point its very brittle.
