Recommendations for RAV Headers
So.......
1969 Firebird, full cage, STOCK front suspension, new RACK steering, FRONT Engine plate, MID PLATE.. 413 Cubic inch Original V block and heads. Custom Cut Comp Cam... Duration @ .50" IN - 272 degrees , EX - 280 degrees Lobe SEP = 109 degrees, GROSS LIFT- IN - .682 EXH - .667 QUESTIONS.... 1) What size Primary Tubes / Collectors? (I May reuse these heads later on a larger CI engine later on). 2) Stepped Headers design??? 3) FITMENT in the chassis with the front and mid-plate and rack??? 4) More importantly... Who can I turn to for making them?? |
Can’t speak of the mid plate and front plate but mad dog made me a nice set for my 69 bird . Basically the same as a Doug’s header back on the day. There was an interference w the upper a arm but I sent him
Pictures and I think he’s probably made the needed changes for that now. I just had to dimple mine in that area . But you hav to jack the engine up considerably to get that header out that’s for sure. I’d say it’s either that or custom on the car |
Pretty sure Custom will be needed to be built on the car.The only sure way to have them fit.I think Maddog got rid of the jig for V headers. They used to make them for Nunzi.Tom

What do you guys think about tube and collector sizing?

Info for ya.
Ideally the tubes should step up in ID whenever there’s a bend of 45 degrees or more. |
Just heard back from S & W and they don't do headers.
Anyone know in the Pennsylvania / NJ area that may be able build custom RAV headers if I trailered the car to them??? |
Seen a thread on another site looking for a header builder. They recommended Farks Supercars in Keyport NJ. Good luck.

I thought DCI was producing headers? http://www.dcimotorsports.com/produc...ir-five-parts/
Or maybe it was McCarty racing? I swear I remember seeing a big bin full of finished RAV headers somewhere online. |
Not sure DCI of McCarty headers will fit a factory head?Tom
