JD 40

So i bought 5 acres in Tennessee it is pretty flat. I am looking at a 1995 JD 40 with a loader and 60" cutting deck. They are asking $5000.00 for it. It has 2900 hours on it. It has a Yanmar 455 3cylinder diesel 22hp engine. Pro's and cons. Thanks John

I have the gas version 425 with 54 inch deck as well as an older 420 with the 60 inch deck.

You will absolutely love the mower.

I asked my local salesman about the loader, and he told me the loader is basically a toy.

As far as price, don't know.

I know the loader lifting capacity is only around 300 lbs but you can shim the valve and double that.

Are you also going to shim the front tire capacity?

And if you actually try to use the loader, you will need rear weights for counter-balance.

I’m not familiar with the JD 40 (?) Is that a 400 maybe? I’ve had 445 ( 99 model) ,& now 720 ultimate (11 model). They are same tractor as 455 only gas engine vs diesel…. Not really heavy enough tractor for bucket imo… and if this is 400,430,or 455 size machine that is really high price… 455’s in 99-01 w/half those hrs can be found for similar $…. I just picked up the 2011 model 720 this spring w/ under 600 hrs for $6k. Granted a diesel will run another $1k

It is a 455. The guy want $2500 for just the tractor and mower deck and $2500 for the loader. I probably wouldn't use the bucket much. Just to spread some gravel.
