hideaway door screw caps
 

I know I'm nitpicking here, but anyone know a source for the screw caps for the hideaway door cover screws? I. forgot they existed until I dug out all the stuff I bagged up 30 years ago, but of course only have 3 of them.

If they are not made or you can't find them ... I could most likely 3d print some.

Just need some careful measurements and if they are hard or soft plastic/rubber.

These are new to me. Looks like they go on the back side of the screw? Funny how many of these little things get lost to time.

yeah, there's no resistance to them and I'm sure as anyone unscrewed a door, they hit the ground soundlessly and unseen to disappear forever. screw goes through the U nut then these are twisted on after that. they're not functional beyond aesthetics of the exposed screw back when the doors are open. Assembly diagram is crap but they might be shown in that red circle.

I think the only reason I even have these is from parting out a single owner wrecked hideaway front end I came across centuries ago.

Thanks on the 3d print offer, but we use something similar where I work, just not cone shaped with that washer end, but that will be good enough for me. Never thought about these on my other hideaway car because I forgot about them til I found the bag. Just a neat detail. what do you think they'd call them to try finding it in a parts book?

Finally found a diagram in the GTO restoration guide.

Part is listed in the 70 MPC for 68 and 69 models.

somewhere there's a large box of them in a lost NOS stash that someone rescued from the dumpster during a dealer parts shelf purge in the 80's that will end up in the trash can because they don't know what they are.

dataway, they are a soft plastic, probably LDPE like the ones I have from work. those only come in red to my knowledge so I'll have to dye them black.

Also found on the 68 Grand Prix. Never know where they can pop up from

gto4evr ... if you get a chance put a mic on them and give me the dimensions. I love trying to print stuff like that. Should be able to print them in PETG which is kind of a soft/hard plastic if that makes sense, take a thread very well.

Finish would not be as nice as the injection molded parts.

At some point I came across a couple of them still attached to front end I bought, no idea where they went.

same era fullsized chevies use them on the engine side of the firewall, maybe a chevy house repops them already?

Looks I get to work on my 68 again, and here I thought I was finished. :p

I had no idea there were caps on those screws either & I have been over those assembly diagrams so many times over the years making sure I used all the correct parts. I missed that one for sure. I'll be ordering them soon :)

Ames has these covers, and they don't have a minimum dollar order amount like AMK does!!

I actually looked on the AMK site first before posting this and didn't find anything. bad search parameters I guess....it's like looking in factory parts manuals, I can never figure out what secret terminology they decide to put parts in under on the index. -case in point, looking for side mirrors in my F350 index the other day. nothing in M for Mirrors, nothing in S for side mirrors....nope, eventually found it just paging through the book and it was listed in the "R"s as rear view mirror (which only showed the side mirrors and not the rear view mirror mounted on the damn windshield!)
