New vacuum lines beware
 

Just venting here. Took out bird for a nice run yesterday and on way back swore I had miss
when at cruising rpm. Found this when o popped good tonight to double check timing.
Really it’s only a year old. This when the connection to vacuum advance on HEI.
Ironically I put old hose back on and called it a day.
Where do we get good hose from nowadays?!

Unfortunately it seems to be like that with all the rubber products we get these days.

I've noticed a lot of the color coded re-pop vacuum lines are of marginal quality. Probably a result of custom low volume product coming out of China. Best way to get good hose is to buy name brand, US made products in a spool.

Long time ago I bought a spool of 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8" and they have lasted me for years. Not cheap though. I think the industry name is "Low Pressure Petroleum" hose.

Or order spools of Gates automotive vacuum line from lots of sources. I used to go to the auto parts store and just ask how much the entire spool of hose was.

I bought a few different brands years ago, appeared to be same stock in different packs. From day 1 the stripe rubbed off just installing it, and later dried and cracked. Replaced with local stock.

Gates hose in there green stripe line was the premium stuff and may still be but I can't confirm since I am still working off of 25 ft I purchased at least 18 years ago.

U-Pull-It hoses are the best

I recently put new heater hoses on sourced from a well-known Pontiac vendor. After getting some heat in the engine found pin hole leak in one of the brand-new hoses. Ridiculous! Also, this past week put on a brand new brake booster from the same company. Bad internal leak from the vacuum diaphragm.
