If it was here, it would get correct installation of a new roof skin. Hopefully, that's the major metal work needed.

With roof skin replacement & minimal extra metal work... can see here in middle of the country this Formula finished in fairly high quality BC/CC under 20K.

1 of 276. Has minimal rust even for the standard in Texas. Fenders are correct. Hood looks correct underneath looks good. Deluxe car with Lucy Blue paint. Only detractor for me would be its not a 4 speed Crusher car. Carb, Dizzy and all the stuff I see that matters looks like it's there. I have seen worse sell for the same amount they are asking. Who's Pontiac collection was that up north with all those cars sold last year. I saw some real crap sell for 30K.

Interesting (to me) that it is being sold by a restoration shop that could conceivably do all the lifting at their cost and sell for big $$. I guess they are banking on an individual with similar skills to do it for themselves without involving a shop?

Since it's not road worthy as is (i.e., This is a project car that will lot drive. "Lot Drives" means with a good battery it can be started and will move. That does not mean it is a road worthy car.)...I gotta figure at least a six figure+ resto. With an entry fee of $55K, would this car be worth $200K or more? Or do you just make it reliable/not pretty and call it a day?

"Their cost" is not what they pay their employees per hour ... it's what they can charge per hour for their employees' labor. Which is a big number. That's why they generally flip them, putting only the minimum amount of work in to make them saleable.

The simple answer as to why they haven't restored it themselves is that they don't think they can recoup the cost of parts and labor. Sadly, if it was a TA that equation may change. For a Formula, not as much of a market (although personally, I love Formulas, just much harder to find nice ones vs TAs.) If I could have found a 70 Formula that was as nice as my TA I probably would have gone with the Formula.. But, that's not the market.

Only way to restore it and not be upside down is if you can do a lot of it yourself. A bunch of those options come standard on a TA , where is the power door lock switch on that car?

@jhein & @keith k...exactly what I was trying to convey, albeit poorly. If a restoration shop can't recoup the cost of parts/labor, it would take an individual similarly skilled who loves the car enough to do the same work, keep it and eat the $. Or get it roadworthy and not be worried about a full resto.

$55K in the existing condition seems steep to me, regardless of the rarity.

This argument has been going on for ages. I had a guy come to my house to buy some parts, and saw my 1974 SD455 Formula. He tried to tell me it was worth less than the equivalent Trans Am because Trans Ams are always worth more. So few Formula 455HOs and SDs change hands it's hard to establish pricing.

The Auction does say or Best Offer. Sounds like they are negotiable. Would think 40-45 would get it in todays 'every one's strapped' economy. 10 year value into the future? Body and paint seem to be the biggest cost. the rest of the car is labor mostly to clean, detail, and replace all safety related components. Would like to see this in person. See if they are full of it or this car is that solid.

The color is the lighter shade blue - Adriatic.

It was extremely strange to me that they wound up with the car from Alaska , then expect to flip it for their asking price range.
They screwed up the cars future by trying to get in the middle of it.
