1973 thru 1976 subframes on a 1972??
 

My 1972 Formula 350 will be in need of a subframe. It's my first car... bought in '81... daily driver for 6 years and took it apart in '88. I then stupidly sold the subframe to help me buy a 69 GTO. Life, home, and kids happened, and here I am 36 years later dreaming of putting my first car back together. And the only thing I need is yes, the subframe. I know the 70 thru 72 will work but as they say "pickins are slim". Will any other year subframe interchange with no modifications? I'd rather roll one under and bolt it up than move this or reweld that. Thanks for the help! Andy

I think it has to be a 74 on down due to the cross member, spacing for frame mounts and the seat positions.

Def will need to be a '70-74 sub.

The only thing that happened really up top on the subframes in 73 up was the moving of the fuel line to the Pass side, and it then crossed under front of oil pan. 70-72 the fuel line crossed the main support and ran up drivers side to fuel pump.
Doing this cut some costs and made them "almost" a equal swap to a camaro..
Alex's Subframe is a very very nice piece. Have seen it in person. While it is a 1 year only frame ( due to support gusset under side) It will work fine for 70-74.
Buy your LOWER control arm bushings for the FRAME year you use. 1970-Dec 72 used a small bolt and bushing center. Later in 73 they went with a bigger bolt and continued this for the whole rest of second gen.

Here is a thread from the PT website where John "AKA NotaTA" Paige outlines the steps he used to put the later model sub frame in an earlier car. Unfortunately John has passed but his knowledge still lives on the interweb.

I have to admit if all it took to buy a 69 GTO I'd being selling the subframe out of my 72 in a New York minute!

Too bad we're so far apart. I have two rust free (meaning light surface rust only) '72 subframes. One bare, the other complete with all suspension.
