'71 TRANS AM HEADLIGHT SWITCH CONNECTOR QUESTION
 

I am replacing the headlight switch and its connector in my '71 T/A.

As you can see in the pics below my original headlight switch connector has melted a bit over the years.

In researching replacing the connector, all of the repro pigtails have 5 brass terminal connectors inside. But as you can see the original has 6 terminal connectors.

I decided to just put new terminal connectors on the original wires and insert them into a new connector (last pic). So it will have all 6 terminals as it was born with.

Just curious why all of the reproduction connectors on the market have only 5 brass connectors and how that works in the car when the original has 6.

Interestingly, the factory wiring diagram shows all six (see below as well)

Halogen headlights can cause the melt.

I guess that could have been in the car in prior years gone by. I'll never know.

What I did notice when I had the connector (attached to the headlight switch) in my hands and I turned on the lights, the connector got very warm.
