Anybody ever use wfo air filter and lid with a stock air cleaner and shaker?

I don't think the factory lid will work since the air cleaner element is very tall and extends into the scoop opening. BTW, I am not a fan of this setup for a higher horsepower car. IMO, the air cleaner element sits way too close to the inside of the air cleaner base resulting in air restriction. Just not enough open element area wise.

Yes. I have this filter when it was made by Airaid. I reworked my home made dual snorkel air cleaner. I used the stock black lid and cut it to fit the filter. I then removed a couple of small pieces of metal inside the shaker so the filter would go up inside the shaker. And I disagree with Gary on the restriction.
I also run a torker 2 intake with a quickfuel 950 carb.

Larry, do you believe this flows better than a stock shaker, which appears very restricted

Your air cleaner base modifications look great! I misunderstood the original post and though he was referring to the whole WFO set up including the base. IMO, without an additional snorkle(s) like you install, getting air to the carb through the scoop opening alone is marginal. My only test of this was done on one of my customers street cars that used the WFO setup on his street 74' Trans Am. I happened to be there during a test n tune session, and he was running the car, I think it was running around 12.70's and not pulling a good mph for the time. I suggested he pull the scoop and air cleaner off and the car picked up .02 immediately.

Ya that makes sense. I also have the shaker scoop area at the back opened up and a screen installed.

I'm not sure about the drop base, but I run a 950 Quickfuel carb under my stock air cleaner.
According to Butler website, it say's it will work. https://butlerperformance.com/search.html?q=drop+base

On a side note. I talked to Chuck at Butler performance yesterday and says he can get that 14x3" cone filter as special order. He says the filter is mostly reserved for the drop base assembly, and filters are hard to get. I said I would take 2 filter on next order if possible. I also email Airaid yesterday and that same filter has been discontinued. I guess if anyone is looking for a filter to contact Chuck at Butler see if he can get them still.

Some air flow numbers- http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...ase+cfm&page=3
The WFO base fits Holleys fine is a spun aluminum circle track base.

And the outside of it is just an aluminum cake pan very easily sourced on the interwebs
