Rear Main Seal Leak Problem Solved!!
 

Saw this on one of my FB Pontiac groups. Don’t know if this guy is for real or just posting to see what kind of responses he gets. :confused: Thought you guys might enjoy this. Sooooo, for your edification:

To fix your Pontiac's leaky rear main seal, try this alternative solution: attach a small plastic jar to the bottom of the dust cover and drill a hole in the lid for oil drainage. When the jar is full, simply unscrew it from the lid and empty it. Saves the trouble of pulling the engine just to have it happen again. You can thank me later.

He needs to get with the guy that came up with the in line PCV hose, oil catch can. Maybe they can market them together, Make it a two-fer purchase!!!

You laugh, but they make something similar for turbo Buicks. They love to leak out of the rear main too

LOL. Now, if you could put in a line with a filter and return it back into the oil pan you'd be all set!!

Interesting. Maybe that's where he got the idea.

GNs have the Spoolfool diaper, it uses 3 folded up paper towels to trap the oil, literally.

This isn't a solution, it's just a way to stop the embarrassing leak.

Sometimes that is enough.

Still it will not stop the churned up oil mist due to no real sealing of the flywheel cover to the the trans and the rear of the motor.

I would be curious if it simply kept it from getting all over the underside of the car. I don't really lose my mind over tiny seeps on the ground, its an old car, it does what it does. But I do hate all the grease and grime that accumulates on the chassis from leaks.

The deluxe version is a black jar so it blends in with the undercarriage

That makes me want to try again to use the converter cover again. Mine is bent to hell and and the converter bolt hit it.

Not that I'm going to glue a container to the bottom, but it would be nice to not have my flex plate flinging oil everywhere.

Put a sump under there and pump it back into the engine!

I put an old piece of drywall under and that drip. Anything more than a drip gets fixed proper like.

For over 20 years my car has left a couple drips on the floor every winter during storage. Dime size spot, not a major leak.

My car club asked me to enter the car into an indoor car show that the club partakes in every year in the winter months. We have a real nice display including carpet that the cars park on. I did not want to be the guy that stains the carpet, so I build this to prevent any issues. I leave it on all the time and change the mat every time I change the oil.

Cheaper and easier than replacing the rear main seal. Don't flame me to bad, LOL...

That's slick! It looks like you can replace that absorbent material without removing bracket. Nice. I bet you could sell them.

Yeah, this reminds me of the shady used car dealer that would stuff a tampon inside the convertor cover on cars w/leaky rear mains.

Honestly just stick PIG MAT between your MANUAL trans bellhousing and block and leaks will be absorbed by it. All most need unless your rear main seal has been totally ripped out.
