Ported Victor vs ported NorthWind dyno test

We tested the Victor vs the NorthWind today. Both portedby same guy (Johnny from CFM South), both ran the same 2" tapered spacer and same carb.
I was somewhat surprised by the results. Intake is written on top of sheets |
Cool test! When you factor in that the northwind is 1.2” shorter than the Victor it is actually impressive it nearly kept up. I appreciate you putting in the effort for back to back testing.:beerchug:

Thanks for sharing. It would be interesting to see what the difference would be no spacer as the NW being lower seems to be tighter into the ports and might be uses for those with hood clearance issues without spacers..

^^^ about what Chuck at Butler told me about my TA. Given hood clearance issues the Northwind WILL fit under the shaker and only give up a little bit vs the Victor. We are putting together a top- end package for my 455 and it MUST stay under the shaker ;) Thanks for the data Slow bird!

Not sure how it is going to fit a Shaker unless it is on the hood. My 78 a T2 barely fits!

Thanks for the info, I am going to the northwind this winter on my setup, been running the victor with no spacer and can just barely keep my flat hood with foam glued to the front of the air cleaner lid where it makes contact.

Your BSFC numbers are scary on the lean side to me.
All too often well below .400. |
A tip bit that could be of interest to some, and somewhat related......
On the Year One Bandit Trans Am project with a 535 combo Jim Butler used a Victor intake with the carb flange milled down 0.650" to help it fit under the hood. With the cut down intake he used a WFO drop base unit for the TA Shaker scoop. Tested on the engine dyno at peak power rpm it gave up about 15 hp by milling the intake. On my current 505 engine prior to the direct port fuel injection conversion I did the same thing with a Victor intake & HP950 carb using no carb spacer. On the engine dyno I lost about 8-10 hp at peak power rpm after milling the intake flange 0.650". My application is street only therefore I did not miss the 8-10 hp. . |
Just to help me out visualize the height, how does the North Wind without a spacer compare to the height of a Performer RPM? They seem like they are around the same height?
