Underhood decals

Who does the best job of reproducing the underhood decals? I heard that Mike Noun does, but his website seems to not be working. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Held for Ransom 12-05-2024 07:09 PM

I thought Mike Noun only did the window stickers.

Ken S. was trying to do underhood decals.

johnta1 12-05-2024 07:56 PM

Dataway was doing some decals for something?
(maybe not him)

johnta1 12-05-2024 08:00 PM

I think it might be Verdoro 68 who was doing some kind of decals.

:)

Looks like no consensus on who is making correct decals?

Held for Ransom 12-06-2024 05:48 PM

Ken S. (Verdoro 68) has a lot on his plate and is being pulled in different directions. But, he is the one trying to make the perfect decals.

Veduro 68 (Ken S) reproduced the '71 455 HO manual trans emission decal, they are EXCELLENT.
I compared Kens repro to an original on one of my original core supports, along with a 20+ year old repro from Osborne out of Georgia (uggh)

Ken also reproduced, in the last 18 months, the '71 455 HO Automatic Emission decal.
Need to order two of those. BTW, on '71 455 HO A-body's the black emission decals were originally attached to the top of the core support in one of 2 different directions. Also, on the flat portion of the top of the fan shroud (endura nose cars factory equipped after the Strike with the plastic filler panel).

On the "Keep your GM car all GM" aircleaner decal, need several correct ones:

-6486809 PA ('71 455 HO A-body non RA)
-6486811 (?) ('71 455 HO Formula non RA)
-6486686 RT ('71-72 T/A)[/QUOTE]

I'm working on the Keep you GM car all GM decals - there's a lot of them to sort through. A lot of the time is in the education of the application and part numbers, variations, etc. I also only work from original examples and try to replicate things exactly and originals are harder to find than you'd think. If there's something you need that I don't make, let me know and I'll put it on the list!

Held for Ransom 12-06-2024 07:16 PM

Ken, what "Keep your GM" decal do you need examples of?

Verdoro 68 12-07-2024 11:39 PM

Let me take an inventory of the repros I have and see if we can find some originals to reference. I ordered a bunch of them from Ames for '68-'74 cars, but there's no telling how accurate they are.

Dave from ECS reproduced the 72 HO Emissions decal. Looks perfect. He did that for NJSTEVE and myself around 15 or so years ago.

What I am specifically looking for is two air cleaner decals, one for my 1971 HO Trans am and the other for my 1978 W-72 Trans am. I have the original from the 1978. Thanks for jumping in here!

I must have purchased a couple of the 455HO MT core support decals from @Verdoro68. 68GTO on the bay?

Another vote for 6486686 RT ('71-72 T/A)

I have pictures of my original but not a close up just took it for reminder of location on mine.

If you all have original examples of the above, send me a PM. I'll need measurements and a few close ups. I started the templates for the art using a few original references a while back but got caught up on codes and part numbers. If I have legit examples with the application it shouldn't be too difficult to finish them out.

That's me! I also have an Etsy store with more stuff in it. I sold out of the original run and just ran a new batch of the 455HO manual decals. They've been pretty popular!

ECS Automotive Concepts produced the RT decal at one time and may still have it, just not show it.

Member burd states he lent his PL decal (or PF, W72, not sure which) to Jim Osborn Reproductions and had them reproduce it correctly (I kind of doubt it, but who knows).

I'll get you the pics and measurements of the '78 decal. Car is a 1978 W72 4-speed.

Dave at ECS did the air cleaner and emission decals for my 71 TA. I sent him my originals and he was able to reproduce them perfectly.

Been working on the W72 decal. The layout is fairly simple compared to an emissions decal, and I could output these cleanly as digital files, but I've been trying to capture the flaws in the in the original's print quality. Things like the AC logo being off center and the "fuzz" around the lettering.

Compared with the existing repro, which is actually not as far off as others that I've seen.

Because you're not doing it the way I think it was done.
I think it was a three stage silkscreen process.
Blue framework, red framework and changing artwork (filter number, pick code and part number).
