Pypes 3" street pro system with video
 

Hi,

yesterday I installed the 3" Pypes H-Bomb Street Pro exhaust.
I like it very much, but it's much louder than the Flowmaster Flow FX I had before (2.5"). But it makes a really nice deep tone that sounds like a old school muscle car.

I may try the Pypes Race Pro as well, but they will probably sound a little more modern, just like the Flow FX did.

Sounds mean

It would be interesting to test their new H pipe crossover vs the X crossover on the same car for sound and performance.

I’m considering the Pypes H pipe set up but it looks like the X pipe set up is easier if you want to run electric cut outs.

Sounds very similar to my 2.5" Pypes X system with their supplied transverse muffler.

Stroked 350: 413 Cu In idling at 700rpm in drive with the A/C on. I was extremely pleased at how tight the system fit up against the floorpan for a very clean look. The kit did not include the hangers that go to the top pipes on the muffler though.

I didn't get the X because I don't need the cutouts any more... it's just not possible to use them on the streets... too loud for me and for everyone else :)

On the dyno I got almost 20hp less with open cutouts. Maybe it had some other reason, but I don't think open cutouts will do anything for me, since I only used them on the track for show.

I ordered some Race Pro mufflers as well. I will try them and make another video. The ones I like more will stay on the car :) Have to try to find out...

after some days I decided to try the Race Pro's very soon, since the Street Pro's are pretty loud (but no drone)... I'll make another video in 1 or 2 weeks :)

if you want a loud exhaust, the Street Pro's seem perfect and they sound nice, plus they are adequate for higher horsepower builds at around 500-550hp (they flow about 450 cfm each in 3")

Just my $0.02...I have a 3" system on my car with the older 18" Race Pros and then 2.5" tailpipes..after 1000 miles of driving I have come to the conclusion they are too loud and I'm cutting them out to install Dynomax Super Turbos.

While I love the sound at idle and around town, on a highway drive the car is simply too loud...cannot hear my $3K Alpine stereo unless it is at 80% volume and I get a headache.

Maybe I am getting old (heaven help me), but the "experience" is not pleasant after 30 minutes.

My experience with pypes street pro and race pro mufflers is that the street pros were louder than the race pro despite what their names might insinuate.

I switched back and forth on 2 different cars with the same outcome. Not sure why the street pros were louder in comparison but I ended up with dynomax. I prefer a fairly quiet ride with electric cutouts when I want to be loud.

Try switching back and forth and see if your results differ. Either way I do like the pypes systems overall

Yeah the names of the pypes mufflers are confusing, the street pro is similar to a flowmaster 40 with angled baffles inside, the race pros are basically the same as dynomax ultra flow, they are a straight through perforated pipe with a fiberglass type material packed inside the case for sound absorption. I have a 3" pypes system with X pipe & race pros on a 500+hp 467 stroker in a 72 firebird, with the big 2" super comp headers its not really quiet, but definitely not loud when cruising on the highway or driving around town but compared more mild pontiac engines I have with 2.5" system & H pipe with flowmaster 40s it is louder due to the bigger headers and pipes but I like the sound of the race pros.

I think the only drawback with the Pypes dual muffler setup whether it be the race or street pro is that they are only offered in 14". So they are only going to muffle sound so much. I think that's why you see many guys going to the Dynomax when looking at noise cancellation, because they are offered in 14" and 20", the 20" obviously better at muffling sound. And the 20" is offered in both a more common turbo style muffler which is very quiet, and the ultraflow straight through design.

Then the question becomes packaging.
