WTB Quadrajet 7040273

Starting the search for a 70 Ram Air Quadrajet 7040273. Starting a restoration on a 70 GTO 455 HO Raim Air 4 speed. Carburetor and RA pans were stollen from car a long time ago. Rest of it is complete but need allot of attention. Car was built 1 st week of October 1969. but any date will do. Yeah, I know. Thanks

I'm pretty sure the 1970 455 HO 4SPD with ram air had a 7040279 quadrajet. Only the RAIII and RAIV 400 4SPD got the 7040273. The cars that received the 7040273 and 7040270 quadrajets also had the ram air exhaust manifolds. As far as I know, the 1970 455 HO In the GTO had standard log exhaust manifolds.

You're correct except for the '70-455HO 4-spd GP and A-body...it would actually be 7040267 for a 49 state car, (0567 for CA). There was no 0279.

I stand corrected! As age goes, so does the memory.

So if there was no 7040279, What carb came on the 1970 455 WA RA 4 speed? The non RA 7040267 or the RA 7040273?? These are the only 2 RA possibilities according to the books I have.

7040273 would be correct for a '70 455 manual trans with RamAir hood inlet & 49 state emissions.

7040573 for same engine/trans with optional RamAir AND Calif emissions.

Would XC in carb slot on build sheet tell what carb came on car from factory?

WC is the pick code of an original 7040273.

For a 49 state non RA '70 455 GTO, the 7040267 XB was used.
Believe XC us the pick code of an original 7040268, have one of those as well.

Pricing on nice original 7040273's is way up there, know of several on here that have nice originals for sale.

So from what I have found even though the build sheet on this car has XC in the carb slot which refers to a 7040268 XC. (automatic). But actually installed a 7040273 WC being a 4 speed. Something about RPO? Anyone have knowledge on this?

So after copying build sheet. Pretty stained I have figured for sure WC is printed in carb box on build sheet. Sorry for the confusion. Also watch out for scammers here. Was contacted by phone after a private message was sent to me. Oregon number and from a suspended PY account

Carb now fits. Box 60(1) is options code T42(601) Hood, air inlet (Ram Air).

You might try that "Carb Shop" guy in Eldon MIssouri. Sounds as if they still have thousands of carbs in stock. Called him a while back on a fairly rare early seventies Chev carb, and he believed they had it. They have limited hours and it seems they are winding down. They have a "paper trail" so one has some measure of reassurance there, as opposed to these "whack a mole" scammers.

If you are still looking for a 7040273, I my be able to help. Feel free to check my credentials. Posted here since 2010, usually in the 64-65 areas. I have the carb posted in the Judge tech and the 70-73 firebird tech at this time.

"Bill"!
