1967 Dual Gate vs 1968?
 

Didn’t know where else to post this but does anyone know what the difference is between the two His & Hers shifters? I have a factory ‘67 one but buying a ‘68-71 car & didn’t know if I could use it or not.

The Hurst duel gate was discontinued in 68, but the His Her’s I know was standard even in 1970 because my car had it.
I can’t answer if a 67 will fit / bolt into the 68 and up A body.

A guess on my part would be no.

No ... it will not fit..... it should be 66 and 67 and 68-72.... hope that helps

the main difference in the '67 & 68 Dualgate is in the stamped steel bracketry that mounts the '67 versus the '68 dual gate. Of course the top plates are different. The cable mtg bracket portion of the '67 GTO Dualgate extends forward & the '67 uses its own shifter cable. The '67 also uses legs that mount it to the tunnel. The '68 gto dualgate has a stamped steel plate that mounts the shifter to the floor tunnel. Have examples of both dualgate shifters, am behind on list of parts going out, but should be able to get to parts tubs later this week.

I’d like to have one in my Firebird just for looks alone. I like those his-un and hers-un shifters.

I picked one up in the pits at Norwalk for my 69 Bird. I think they were made for 70 Bird and up but the guy I bought it from had in his 69 Bird.... but his car has morphed into a race car....... it happens so often...LLS

There is always a few available at Carlisle.

67 on the left, 68 on the right. The 67 mounts primarily to the floor. The 68 to the floor along with another plate bracket, that I didn't get in the picture, that mounts to the console. Dual Gates for Firebirds are quite a bit different.

you definately need a 68 shifter if your using the 68-72 console.
make sure the cirners are nice on the dual gate side HIS side that are the stoppers for each shift
often the chrome handle will have a notch in the bar from rubbing foryears or the
steel stops in the shifter will have the corners worn off and the wratchet action will be compromised

Not to drag this topic off course but I run into some 69 and up owners with Rally shifters in their cars that are unaware that their shifters work in a similar manner, only without the dual "gate". They have the regular "hers" function throughout, but push the lever to the right for "his" manual shifting. It must be a rally shifter to do this. These shifters do not have nearly the cool looks and function of the Hurst dual gates, imo. I wish Pontiac would have continued using a Hurst flat shifter in place of the tubular shaped one they used to incorporate the reverse/ park lockout but I digress.
