Sagging hood insulation
 

This is my first experience with a TA hood, so I'm unsure if this is a normal situation to have the hood insulation totally unattached around the scoop opening. Retainer buttons were used at all the pre-drilled holes that were found in the hood, but there are none around the scoop opening, and seemingly few down each side of the hood. I'm close to just pulling it off because I really don't want to drill any holes through the freshly painted hood and risk damaging it. Does anyone know if it was a legitimate option on a 1970? I really wish a modern, pressed shell type insulation pad was available.

T/A hoods didn't come with insulation originally. I would remove it.

Pulled the insulation off and realized it had been installed upside down with the open glass side of the pad facing the engine so several of the retainer buttons had pulled through the pad. There were factory dimpled holes on the front and sides of the scoop opening.

It does look much cleaner without it though.
