Thinking about tubular mufflers in series with Dynomax super turbos...
 

Just putting this out there. I am tired of loud snarly exhaust on my 2.5" headers/dual 14" muffler setup for my 67 Firebird. I have headers going into 2.5" pipes, followed by Y pipe flange cutouts, into dual 14" Summit mufflers, then over the axles to the outlets.

I have Dynomax Super Turbo 14" mufflers that I will soon be installing. The ST's I've heard to be a good compromise of high flow and low sound. I am also thinking seriously about getting rid of the cutouts since I don't race anymore, and they were ill-conceived from the get-go.

To get even quieter sound and drone elimination, I thought about installing a pair of tubular mufflers in place of the cutouts.

Has anyone done this, with a small tubular glass pack in front of a 14" muffler? Curious what would happen to sound/flow. I might just do it for fun to see what happens.

I live in a part of Mesa that has lots of 55+ parks. I don't want to be a local menace. I will leave that to the kids with their backfiring imports and the loud pipe biker morons.

I put a set of resonators in front of the axle jumpover in my T/A - it had a crossflow muffler. It helped a bit with the raspiness.

My GTO with headers into a 2 1/2" headpipes then Dynomax mufflers followed by Gardner tailpipes with resonators is so quiet you can't hear the exhaust on the highway. I'd see if you could replace the crossflow muffler with resonators welded together and continue with the Dynomax mufflers after the headers. Oh, I have a H pipe too.

I have the Hushpowers on my 421 Lemans and use them on the run stand in my garage.You might like them better than your Dynomax.They make stainless and reg steel.Tom

I have no room to run anything after the 14" super turbos, but I have room in front of them. I kinda wish I had an engine test stand. It would be fun to experiment!

I have a pair of bullet muffers in betweeen the headers and aerochamber mufflers on my 68 GTO. It has made the car a lot quieter. Less drone and nicer to drive and it maintains a nice deep sound.

These are on the tailpipes of my '66 GTO with full 3" exhaust and Super Turbo 16" or 20" mufflers ahead of the axle (forgot which). https://www.dynomax.com/mufflers/sup...set-17925.html

The bullet mufflers don't look like much but they work surprisingly well in addition to the normal reverse-flow mufflers. Being 3", the system is still loud, but now more tolerable. Engine is a 250-ish duration solid-roller 428 with 72cc E-heads.

Years ago my son pulled the converter on my K1500 Blazer (TBI) and installed a FlowMaster American Thunder system with a 40 series muffler (if you could call it that). I bought a "glasspack" to put in where the converter used to be and it took the bark out of the exhaust and made it tolerable. He was a teenager when he did that and was not happy with my addition but lived with it.
