1988 IROC WIW ?
 

Hi Guys,

A friend has just told me that she has a friend that is ready to sell her dead husband's 1988 IROC.
I was wondering if anyone here has any knowledge about these specific cars, what to look for (options?), and would care to provide a value. (apparently it is/was mint, never driven in winter and has zero rust...etc)

here is what I know, so far

1988 IROC
32,000 kms (about 20,000 miles)
been sitting in a garage (attached to house, so somewhat heated) for 20 years
5 speed manual trans.
T-Roof
color is Black (if that matters)

I bought my son a used ‘90 IROCZ (last year of IROC production) as his first car. It was the 5.7L LT1. The car ran great well past 120K miles and he sold it for more than I paid. Brakes, tuneup parts, struts (suspension and hood/deck) starter, battery and radiator (crappy aluminum with crimped on plastic tanks) were the sum total of repairs. The deck lid started seriously rusting under the spoiler at each of the screw holes. The factory used no sealant on the threaded studs that mounted the spoiler.

If the one you’re looking at has Ttops, it is a 305, not a 350. The 350 LT1 had some grunt for its day, the 305 not so much. Nice, heavy solid GM ride in those cars.

These are bringing very good money. My friend just got over $90k for his blue iroc at auction. Clean low mile examples are commanding very good money.

I'd also be very interested once you get some pics and a price.

I would guess a 5-speed was not available with the 350 either.

All 5 speed cars were 305s.

And you could get a 350 in either a hardtop, T-top or a vert.

Yes, I misspoke. Ttops were available w the L89 for 1988. They were available only on 305 cars from 90-92. My son’s car was a ‘90.

5 speed was not available w L89 engines and no Ttops if the performance axle option was selected with with either engine.

There is a gorgeous red 1986 IROC w 6,956 original miles listed on Cars.com right now for $38,800.

They made a zillion irocs, at least it seemed that way when about every other car on the highway was one! An Iroc would be my first choice for a third gen camaro. The ones that are selling for stupid money are ones that have no miles, or some drunk overbid at an auction! 20,000 miles is not bad but if the car has sat for that long its going to need some bucks dumped into it before its roadworthy. The worst thing for a car is to let it sit idle for years at a time. The term 'mint' has different meanings to different people. Sight unseen assuming that its a 'mint' car I dont think I would spend much more than 20k.
Hagarty has a good evaluation tool and they list a #3 car at 21k. My guess this is a #3 condition car. #1 is better than new concours quality, never been driven. #2 is very high quality original restoration, trailered to shows. #3 is a nice cruise night/local show car. Most 'nice' cars fit this category. (#4 is needing some repairs but driveable #5 is a parts car).

Yikes! I can think of a BUNCH of cars that I'd rather buy for $90k!!!

I had a few 80s f birdies and we worked on some for road racing they handle very well. But when you put them up against hell cats and teslas w 1000 hp they seem VERY anemic.

You can get a demon 170 for $160k right now at auctions
They dropped big time. Used 1000 ho teslas in the $60k range that’ll rip your face off. So I think that beat them yo a bit
