Rockford Files Season 2 Episode 5 - red 1970-3 Firebird spotted

Saw this on the ROKU channel. It's not the traditional 'Rockford gold' Firebird. It's more of a 'special guest' shot.

Only in about the first five minutes of the episode.

The Firebird is owned by a 'model' who calls Jim for help and then turns up dead.

The Firebird gets chased around by bad guys in a Mercedes, run into a fence and then ends up in a lake with the model (dead) in it.

It's destroyed when they lift it out with cables and a crane. Blue plates 879QHQ.

Red exterior, white interior, woodgrain dash, flat hood, hubcaps, 1972 grilles. Might be deluxe interior.

In one scene it looks like either the front fender emblems are painted red or it has the 1971 fender vents.

Possibly one of the stunt cars painted red for this episode.

Love those Rockford cars !!

I watched the first 3 episodes of the first season last night. I remember watching back in the day and the cars were always different, even in the same episode. In the first episode the main car that's shown is a 74. But in some scenes there are white walls and in others RWL tires, probably different cars. Then in some scenes one of the 74's is missing the rear glass. They also show a 75 in several scenes and in one scene they clearly show a 77-78 car. Don't know how that got there Fun to watch though. Lots of other cool cars too, not just the Firebirds.

I rewatched all the episodes during covid.
On the 77-78, I thought that was I was crazy and had to rewind the episode. So I did a quick google search and it seems they added scenes from later episodes to make them an hour long once they went into syndication.

I recently watched that episode. I think I recall one of the shots having the 71 Fender vents. I believe that same Firebird ended its career in an episode of Emergency. It's a bonus watching these old shows. Great entertainment with a fascinating back ground.

I'm glad you got the license plate number..... Probably would've been helpful for Rockfish also :D
