Gas door adjustment
 

My gas door closes a little too far in, and also needs to be raised 1/4 inch. Anyone have advice on how to do that? Looks like a couple baby leaf springs for hinges. Bending them somehow?

You can also see in the pics that the bottom of the door rubs the bumper when opened and has chipped body paint.

Sitting too far in pretty much is determined by the rubber bumper stops. You just need the right one I'd think.

The up and down alignment should be done where the piece bolts to the steel door panel and perhaps too where the door panel bolts to the car. You just have to play around with it.

Yeah I studied it for awhile and came to the conclusion that I need some kind of stop to push the door forward. At the moment I am using a couple felt pads for furniture. It’s shimmed it up perfect. But now that u mentioned rubber stops perhaps that is it. In the inside of the door, there are three acorn nuts. No rubber stops. Is it the case that rubber stops go over those acorn nuts?

Buy a couple of gas door rubber bumpers from our host Ames Performance. You can see them in the first picture, they pop into two holes in the rear body panel.

I’m thinking you missed those. There s a specific set of rubber bumper for the gas door, same goes for the glovebox door and ashtray.

There’s quite a bit of adjustment, loosen the two nuts that attach the gas door hinge inside the trunk to the rear body panel and you’ll eventually after a few tries find the right location for the gas door.

Thanks bman. That’s is very helpful. I don’t recall having those holes, but I will take a look tomorrow. Maybe someone filled them in? Very strange. I might have to rig a rubber stop with adhesive on the bottom and just stick there I guess. I found the item on Ames. Trying to figure out something else to buy to make the shipping worth it! Those stops are only $3….

Confirmed I have the holes. Could not remember lat night. Ordered stoppers
