Wheel disc paint

Can anyone confirm what color the painted areas are on my 66 wheel disc? I've always thought they were a satin black, but this pretty nice set I have might be otherwise.. The ring around the center cap definitely seems to be black, but the rest of the areas seem to be almost a dark argent, or just very faded. Thanks to anyone that can help.

I think you will be perfectly safe and correct using SEM Trim Black.

That's what I have always thought too, but wanted to make sure. Thank you sir!

It's almost a Slate Grey/Silver, not black like the center cap ring.

Well dang!.. Thanks Jeff!!! Is it Metallic? Those both look great on those cars.. love both the whitewall and redline look.

It is/was Metallic.

1966 Custom Wheel Disc

I have two NOS that definitely have the Black ring in the center and a type of flat gray around the 6 openings.
Any condition used Wheel Disc after 60 years will have lost it’s Factory Original paint finish from the elements, washing and waxing.

This flat gray was also used on the 1967 Custom disc.

Looks like I have some more color matching to do. Thanks guys, truly are the best!

I bought a set of NOS ones for my 1966 GTO about 10 years ago. As others have pointed out, it is NOT black. Its not silver either. It might be the charcoal used on rally 2 wheels. But here is the challenge.-The manufacturer of these wheel covers used some type of mask and applied the paint very thin resulting in an opaque finish with the stainless area below the paint making it look quite different than if you painted it on a different colored surface. When I restored the '67 spinners that Chris shows, I used the charcoal rally 2 paint. It looked too dark, but I was using a spray can. Over time, it lightened up to look more like the NOS one that Chris posted. Whether or not this is the correct color for the 66 cap, I don't know

Thanks for the input Andre. I was thinking that it might be the charcoal rally II color. I have a formula for that color, I think thats where I'll start, and tint as needed from there.

Lay it down thin. Use an airbrush if you have one.
