question regarding dog dish / poverty hub availability on '69 full size
1 Attachment(s)
I'm always interested in showroom stock / factory-correct originality, and have a question regarding hubcaps. Did Catalinas, Executives / Bonnevilles have the option of the finned vents style poverty hubcaps as depicted in the image that I have attached?
For some reason, I was thinking they were, but I am stumped finding a picture with any full sized '69 with these hubs in an online search. I'm guessing that it wouldn't be a tall order even if an uncommon request. I would think Catalina with these would have been more common, but just flummoxed trying to find some proof. I even looked at the '69 brochure that included hubcap options, and didn't see that style whatsoever. Thanks in advance. |
The poverty cap was the base wheel cover on a Catalina. Most Executives received the standard Deluxe wheel covers instead of an upgraded cover. Not sure of which upgraded wheel cover was std on a '69 Bonneville. Do know a wire wheel cover was optional, as I've owned several of them.
My Dad special ordered new a 6 pass Exec Safari wgn, midnight green w/limelight green top, luggage rack, 428 YH engine, pwr disc, AC, HDC, Cruise, 15x6 RallyII wheels. believe he ordered it with the trailer pkg. Pulled the family travel trailer with it up til '74. Over the last 40 plus years of boneyarding, swappers, have only ran across a few other '69 Exec wagons & all had 400-2bbls. |

Here's a '69 Catalina that has its original PMD hubcaps on 15" steel wheels.

I am going to guess that Catalinas, Executives, and Bonnevilles had essentially the same standard equipment year after year;
I looked in my 1968 selling facts pamphlet set, and couldn't find any mention of standard wheels, but my 1972 selling facts book makes it quite clear; Line #2 under 'Exterior' reads as follows: Deluxe wheel covers This is not to say that Dennis is wrong, but it might require a bit more digging if you would be considering buying a brand new set of repop 'dog dish' hubcaps for your car. |

Jonny, l certainly don't profess to know everything about Pontiacs, especially the big ones, however, I did find this in the Accessories catalog for 1969 where the 'deluxe' wheel disc/cover was optional on the Catalina and standard on the Executive & Bonneville, indicating to me that hub caps (dog dishes) were standard on the Catalina. The PHS doesn't show a wheel disc option on this '69 Catalina, and it didn't have the Decor Group either where 'deluxe' wheel discs were included. This was true for 68-70 big cars...from the Accessories literature. 71 Catalina's also had 'dog dishes' standard. The Catalina Brougham, on up, had the 'deluxe' wheel disc/cover standard.
