Wipers Park Issue

I have an extremely annoying issue where my windshield wipers (2 speed) wont go into park mode. When wipers are on, both speeds work fine. when i turn them off the go down... but they dont do the final move into park. Ive tried alot of stuff. Taken the whole thing apart and removed the old crappy grease and replaced it. I replaced the wiper motor relay. If I take it apart and connect alligator clips to the 3 different switches and my battery, I can get it to spin, and I can get it to go into park mode, its when i put it back together that it doesnt work. maybe its not grounding? but i dont see how. any thoughts on this? theres lots of posts on pontiac forums, but none of them quite match or they say stuff i dont understand.

You may have a problem with the relay switch inside the motor.

I replaced that relay. and once i did, i was able to get it to move into park mode with alligator clips on my battery and motor taken apart. but when hooked back up, not so much.

Is the wiper switch well grounded? Motor?

Will it go into park mode with the wiper arms removed? Ive found that a lot of these old wiper motors just arent very strong anymore. You say they are going down when you turn the switch off, just not as far as you want. I wonder if they are just getting hung up from the friction of the blades.

Don't forget, the wiper motor works by when you turn on the dash switch, you are actually completing the grounding of the motor.
By that I mean, the wiper motor has continual power to it and when you operate the switch, you are actually completing (or breaking) the circuit using the ground wire.

So if it works on the bench, I'm thinking you are seeing it park properly when you remove the ground wire. If that's so, I think its a matter of adjustment in the motor so when you break the ground wire, the motor continues to operate till it cycles round to the point where the wipers are in the park position.

Bad explanation I know.

There are several places that specialize in rebuilding &/or restoration of those old 1960s era GM car wiper motors.

I know the ones for the C-2 corvettes, it is just as important that they work but also the look of the die-cast potmetal and steel when you open your hood at a car show.

Have you called one of those places and asked for help? You may need to send them your motor and have them bench test it.
