Seven SD455 Trans Ams at Mecum Indy. There are three '89 TTA's.

(7) SD455 Trans Ams foing accross the block almost one after the other this afternoon on ESPN or Mecum internest sight. Going to be interesting.

Seems to me most Super Duty's went a little light considering they apparently had numbers matching drivetrain. No?

What did S302 do?

Seems fairly SOFT.....except for S299, but still a bit low......

I thought these prices were a little light too

Too many up for sale at once kept the bidding wars at a minimum and combined with the economy news of late this isthe result.

This was a good opportunity for a buyer to get into a reasonably priced SD. Makes me wonder if it was part of an estate selling off the collection.

I think you could be right. All seven SD 455 cars and both Judges including the '69 RA IV Judge were part of the Medeiros Collection:

Lenny’s from up in Hamilton he’s a good guy. He’s been down here several times buying parts for his cars, but I haven’t talked to him in a while to see how he’s doing.

I don't know if you were there in person to inspect, or formed your opinion from the pics. But I agree completely. For being rare cars, regardless of there somewhat dubious write ups, the collection of 73-74 SD cars were a rough bunch of 2nd generation Firebirds. With the exception of the 73, formula SD, all the rest needed significant work to be made into nice cars. Driver quality, I guess. But how long is the muffler tape going to stay on the rusted out muffler. Original survivor car? Ok , how does that explain the aftermarket sub-frame tie bars underneath. They all appeared to be legitimate SD cars, but the list of defects is a mile long on all of them. I think the money was about right on them. If you were paying a professional to properly restore any of them, there was no money to be made on them. If you could do all the work yourself, that's another story. Like allot of people say, and I agree, they all had "good bones".
The 61-63 SD cars were a totally different story. They were beautiful, fantastic cars. The hammer prices reflect that.

The white '73 brought good money. A very nice survivor with some condition issues. Crap color combo IMO.

The red '73 would have done better if presented better... repair the seat.. repaint the wheels.. clean the white letters.. ditch the mud guards.. and whatever nit picky crap that doesn't cost a lot of $$ and time to fix. The body side moldings are hideous but appear to be riveted on.

Hopefully all will go to true enthusiasts, get restored, cared for properly and be enjoyed as most of us SD guys do with our cars.

Mine has 40k. I've and my wife have 'enjoyed' the car. Only regret is not ordering red. Seems red paint seems to hold up. My blue has problems. Steve Ames years ago said leave it alone. Thanks for reviewing these cars. I NEVER dreamed these cars would bring that kind of money. I've enjoyed mine.
